Guylaine Saucier, O.C., C.M.,
F.C.A.
Former Chair of Joint
Committee on Corporate Governance (Montreal)
A native of Noranda, Québec, Guylaine Saucier
is a graduate of the Collège Marguerite-Bourgeois
and the École des Hautes études commerciales in
Montréal, Quebec. A Fellow of the Institute of
Chartered Accountants, Mme Saucier was the President
and CEO of Le Groupe Gérard Saucier Ltée, a major
company specializing in forest products from 1975
to 1989.
A member of the Ordre des comptables agréés du
Québec, Mme Saucier was recently Chair of the
Joint Corporate Governance Committee sponsored
by the Toronto Stock Exchange, the Canadian Institute
of Chartered Accountants (CICA), and the Canadian
Venture Exchange, set up to review the current
state of corporate governance in Canada.
Mme Saucier sits on the boards of several major
Canadian corporations, including Petro-Canada,
the Bank of Montreal and Nortel and is a Director
of the Public Policy Forum.
Mme Saucier was Chair of the Board of Directors
of CBC/Radio Canada from 1995 to 2000 and is the
immediate past Chair of the Board of Directors
of the CICA from 1999 to 2000.
In the past, she has served on the boards of
the Bank of Canada from 1987 to 1991, the Commission
of Inquiry on Unemployment Insurance in 1986,
and the Ministerial Task Force on Social Security
Reforms in 1994.
Mme Saucier was the first woman to be appointed
President of the Québec Chamber of Commerce. She
has played a very active role in the community
as a member of the board of various institutions,
including the University of Montréal, the Montréal
Symphony Orchestra and the Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal.
Mme Saucier was recognized as a Member of the
Order of Canada in 1989 for her civic-mindedness
and significant contribution to the business world.
